It's your first birthday and your mom lets you have a giant cupcake at 9am, what could be better then that? I'm so happy I got to be the photographer to capture this awesome occasion. Happy Birthday, Little Man!
Captured
A blog of all my most recent photos
Jay and his Mandolin
I just loved working with Jay, a talented Americana bluegrass musician. We were able to experiment with some interesting photo techniques, like shooting thru prisms and double exposures. And all this was done in an amazing space that really speaks to Jay's genre of music. The light that day coming thru the large windows was more then I could ask for. We captured those dramatically lit shots that I just adore. Check out the photos and check out @thisisjaymaloney.
Nick and Rachel Engaged
Ok, imagine the coldest day of the year... like 5 degrees cold... and you're outside on an engagement shoot... and it's sorta windy out... and your hands are starting to freeze... but the couple is amazing and don't complain once... and they are willing to walk around Troy for almost an hour finding the perfect spot... and you get a bunch of amazing shots with all sorts of different backgrounds... and you go back and edit them all... and you deliver close to 60 photos to the couple... and they love your edits... SUCCESS... but then you realize even after ALL THAT, you can't help but go back to these certain handful of photos... these ARE THE ONES, they say it all... the warmth, the humbleness, the love... all there, and framed by the beautiful winter light.
No shortage of laughs
This is what I want my family to be like when my kids grow up into adults. They were all so easy going. And I just adore how they made each other laugh (even if I dragged them out into the freezing rain). I was fortunate to be able to join them on this rare occasion when they are all together. I just love the moments captured.
Did we get it?
Sometimes gathering everyone and taking the family portrait is the last thing anyone wants to do, especially for the little ones. But the moments surrounding the "come here"s and the "did we get it?"s, is and always will be when the magic happens. And we may never get everyone smiling all at once but that's ok because that's what life and family is all about. To me, real life moments are a thing of beauty and that, we always will get.
